Happy Mother’s day Marvelous Substack Readers,
It’s just me and July today as we await Zach’s return from tour. So, I’m celebrating myself today with a girls lunch with Auntie Lila.
And shout out to my own mom, of course. I’ll see her soon!

Becoming a mother has been the adventure of my life. I didn’t always know I really needed to be a mom. I didn’t yearn to give birth and I worried about all the impacts on my life and career.
I wasn’t wrong. Birth, as it turned out, was complicated (that’s an understatement) and my career didn’t survive more than six months after returning to work full-time.
And yet, here I am, proud of all I have accomplished in the wake of the challenges. At every turn, motherhood has taken me to the depths of experience: from fear, to love, to joy, to pain, and back again.
I walked through fire to get here.
In my path to motherhood, I see this was my life’s biggest, and most rewarding, transformation.
And while our days are consumed with apple slices, Raffi songs, and dirty fingers, I love her beyond anything I’ve ever loved. I’m endlessly grateful for every day of joy and peace we can spend together.

I started writing this when I was on dialysis. It’s intended to be both memoir and a practical tool to help folks who might be going through something similar or those caregivers and family supporting someone with a challenging diagnosis. NOTE: This is not intended to replace actual medical guidance. Please consult your doctors on your individual challenges and situations. Please talk to your clinicians before adjusting any of your care protocols. Also names have been changed for most of my medical staff.
